Laurencekirk Group Chair Avril Nicoll attended the launch this evening of the 1st Hillside Scout Group's appeal for a new scout hut.
The Angus group's building is smaller than Laurencekirk's but, judging by age and appearance, they may have come from the same job lot! Refurbishment is not an option, and the group has a design for a larger brick building on the same site going through the planning process.
The assembled Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Leaders, parents and politicians heard from Scout Leader John Campbell. His presentation made clear why the varied and adventurous opportunities offered by Scouting can be so formative in young people's development. The group appears to have a 'can do' attitude, which is reflected in its target of raising £250,000 and having the new build in place by the end of 2011.
After 'buying a brick' Avril said, "I was made very welcome and it was a great opportunity to share ideas and get inspiration. We will keep in touch as our campaigns progress."
