Anything happens at remote control morning and it usually does
05 February 2012

Michael Schmaker, Robbie Renegrade, Ethan NDT, Jamie Bond, Andrew Drift and Joe McLaren lined up a variety of remote control models on Saturday for the Cubs' indoor remote control morning at the Scout Hut.

The front row Cubs created a testing obstacle course consisting of Cubs Straight, Gambon Corner, Three Foot High Climb, Baby Driver Pit, The Logs and a speed jump. Commenting on the event, Cub Section Leader Dave McGinlay said, "Michael's offroader powered over all obstacles and also showed a good turn of speech, and Robbie's Monster truck was steady and secure. Ethan's drifter just about showed what it could do, while Jamie's certainly put on a good performance, spinning and racing. Andrew had several RCs and Joe's car could drive on walls!"

Luckily, the car batteries lasted just long enough for the 2 hour session, and the Cubs were grateful to Andrew's dad for acting as mechanic and keeping some cars on the road. The highlight for the Cubs was when the remotes interfered with each other, causing unpredictable turns and tumbles. With the lights turned off, four or five cars lit up with LEDs put on a wild dance!

Dave said, "As always, thank you to the parents who helped clear up the hut at the end."

Generous community donates £658
03 December 2011

The Laurencekirk community has again dug deep this week to support the scout group's refurbishment fundraising efforts.

On Wednesday we opened the hut as part of the Laurencekirk Christmas shopping evening to thank people for their support towards replacing the roof. We offered a cuppie, biscuits and second hand books and took in £128 in donations.

Today a bag pack at Scotmid raised an amazing £530! We are extremely grateful to the staff at the store for their kindness and assistance as well as to everyone who filled our buckets.

All money raised will go towards the next phase of refurbishment which involves rewiring, replacing the heaters and adding insulation.
